Ah, window seats. What’s not to love? They’re a wonderful addition to any living space, as they create depth, breadth and dimension.. Not to mention they provide such a cozy spot for your family to enjoy. If you’re looking to redo your living room, they fit in wonderfully between two built-in bookshelves. You might also consider installing extra windows to increase the amount of natural light in your house. You’ll cut down on your electricity bill because you’ll use less artificial light, and possibly boost the overall value of your home. With light coming in from every direction, your window seat will be prominently on display. Like we said, what’s not to love? Here are some tips on how to accentuate and style your window seats. Enjoy.

Bay and Bow Windows

Big, beautiful bay and bow windows really let in the light! Bay windows are actually three windows that connect along the vertical edges, jutting out from the wall of your house.  In contrast, bow windows can connect up to five and sometimes six windows. The windows are angled to the outside, so from the inside, you can see views from multiple angles. They play up natural light by flooding any room with streams of sunshine and help make smaller spaces appear larger. Window seats work best with a bay or bow window since they enhance your home’s exterior and interior while adding value to its overall price. Install one of these along with your window seat, and you’ll be surprised to discover how much more brighter and bigger the room feels!

Fancy Features

Building a bay or bow window allows you to add cool features that don’t happen with other window treatments.  Take an insulated seat board that lowers energy costs and protects against cold air transferring into your house. Plus, you can customize the seat boards and laminate the interiors to add durability.

Reading Nooks

Say yes toe the perfect opportunity to cozy up and set the space for a personal reading nook. All you have to do is cushion it to your liking, be it by tufting the bench or keeping it rustic and adding a few throw pillows. Then, pick out your favorite read and spend an afternoon inside another world. With a large bay window, you can create a reading nook “for two” with a comfy chair, a rocking chair, or a sprawling day bed right by the window.

Resting Up: Having the space to relax, with friends, family or by yourself is important in your home. Customize your window seat with unique fabrics, fun pillows and throws that match the style of your living room or bedroom. Fully experience the elements without being exposed to them – take in the sun while enjoying a hot cup of tea, or curl up on the window seat with a good book on a rainy day.
